But whether computers change education or not, information appliances are coming to the developing world for commercial reasons. If the computer industry doesn't make a successful product in their price range, well, cell phones are already in their price range and will soon ramp up their capabilities to those of computers. It's just a different bunch of companies that'll get rich. Cell phone use is exploding in the developing world, even for the very poor. In Tanzania, fishermen are buying or renting them to get prices, weather, make direct sales before they dock.
